Adding Variants to Your Product with the Printify Uploader

Not every design is one-size-fits-all — that’s why the Printify Uploader on Prelist allows you to add variants to any product! Whether you're working with different colors, sizes, or print areas, variants help you offer flexible options without creating separate uploads.

What is a Variant?

A variant refers to a version of a product with different characteristics, such as color, size, or print area.

Using variants, you can apply a single design across multiple formats — making it easy to manage different styles or product versions from one upload.

Available Variant Types

Here are the types of variations you can add in Prelist:

  • Color – Upload different designs based on product color

  • Size – Use different design files for each product size

  • Print Area – Upload designs to different areas (e.g., front, back, neck)

How to Add Variants to a Design

Upload Your Main Design

  • Drag & drop your design into the uploader

  • Or click to browse and select your file

Step 3: Select Color, Size, or Print Area

Variant Examples and Tips

Color Variants (Most Popular)

Customize which colors your design will appear on.
Example: You have a dark version of your design for light t-shirts and a light version for dark t-shirts.

Pro Tip: Use this to avoid dark-on-dark or light-on-light visibility issues!

Size Variants

Use different design files for products that come in various sizes.
Example: A phone case design may need resizing for each model.

Print Area Variants

Control where the design appears — front, back, neck, etc.
Example: Add a logo to the front and a larger design to the back.

Pro Tip: You can mix and match — e.g., a dark design on the front and a light design on the back.

Size & Position Adjustments

You can fine-tune the size and placement of each design:

  • Per individual design

  • Per variation group

  • Globally across all uploads

Step 3: Upload Your Variant Designs

Once your variants are set up, upload the appropriate design files for each one.

Pro Tip: Always adjust your variant settings before uploading the design files. Each main design should have a matching file for every variant you've created.
