Presets in Prelist
Presets are reusable templates that store any combination of Etsy listing details—so you can stamp consistent settings onto existing products or speed-run new listings (including our Bulk-Create workflow). Think of them as your personal “listing blueprints.”
Real-World Use Cases (Why You’ll Love Presets)
Scenario | How a Preset Solves It |
---|---|
Consistent Image #2 You always place the same lifestyle shot in slot #2 for brand consistency. | Save that image in a Preset. Apply it to 300 listings in seconds—no drag-and-drop marathon. |
Niche-Specific Tags & SEO Every “Boho Wall Art” item needs the same 13 keyword tags, title formula, and description template. | Store those SEO fields once. Apply the Preset to every new upload (or retroactively to old listings). |
Standard Shipping & Return Policy Physical products ship from the same warehouse with identical handling times and return terms. | Lock in your Shipping Profile + Return Policy. One click updates every listing—no accidental policy drift. |
Personalization Prompt for Custom Orders You sell custom jewelry that always asks for initials and birthstone. | Save the personalization prompt & character limit in a Preset. Zero chance you forget to add it on a new item. |
Variation Blueprint Every T-shirt comes in the same Size and Color matrix. | Store the variations once; spawn fully-formed listings with Bulk-Create. |
(If you can edit it through Etsy’s API, you can bake it into a Preset.)
1. Why Presets Matter
Without a Preset | With a Preset |
---|---|
Manually re-enter return policy, shipping, taxonomy, tags, etc. every single time. | One click applies every saved detail—no typos, no missed steps. |
Risk inconsistent branding and SEO fields. | Lock in proven titles, descriptions, tags, or pricing strategies. |
Slower launch cycles. | List dozens (or hundreds) of products in minutes. |
2. Creating a New Preset

Go to the Listings tab in Prelist.
Click + New Preset (top-right toolbar).
Name your Preset — this is the only required field.
Pick any listing fields you want to bake in (all Etsy-supported fields are available).
Examples: Description, Category, Price, Shipping Profile, Return Policy, Digital Download files, etc.
Hit Save Preset. You’ll see it appear under My Presets on the left panel.

Pro tip: Start with just a handful of core details, then iterate. You can always edit the Preset later as your workflow evolves.
3. Live Bulk-Create Validation
As you add fields, Prelist checks in real time whether the Preset meets Etsy’s minimum data requirements for Bulk-Create.

Green = ready to use.
Gray = still missing mandatory details.
The checklist adapts based on listing type: Digital vs Physical (e.g., Shipping Profile isn’t required for digital items).
What's Required for Bulk-Create?
Digital items (bulk-create)
Listing description
Core details – three drop-downs: Who made it / What is it / When did you make it (+ Year)
Etsy category
Renewal – leave on Automatic (default)
Physical items (bulk-create)
Listing description
Core details – same three drop-downs
Etsy category
Shipping profile
Return policy
Renewal – stays on Automatic by default
4. Applying a Preset to Existing Listings

In the Listings tab, select one or more items (up to 500 at a time).
Click Bulk Edit → Presets.
Choose the Preset from the dropdown.
Review the preview panel—only the fields stored in the Preset will override existing data.
You can check or uncheck any of the saved preset details you need to apply.
Click Apply and then Update to push the changes live to Etsy.
5. Using Presets to Create New Listings
Single Listing (coming soon)

Bulk-Create allows you to create multiple listings at once based on your preset. We cover the step-by-step in the dedicated Bulk-Create Guide.
6. Editing or Deleting a Preset
Navigate to the Presets page.
Expand the Preset drop-down → click the select a preset menu.
Hover over a Preset to reveal the delete option
Select Set to edit a preset
Edit to change fields or rename the preset → press save updates to update the preset
7. Best Practices
Do | Why |
---|---|
Create niche-specific Presets (e.g., “Print-on-Demand Tees,” “Digital Planners”). | Speeds up listing and keeps SEO consistent within a product line. |
Keep core details generic, optional details specific. | Flexibility: you can layer unique elements on top per listing. |
Review validation before bulk actions. | Saves you from Etsy API errors mid-upload. |
Audit Presets quarterly. | Etsy policy tweaks or shipping rate changes? Update once, profit everywhere. |
8. Troubleshooting
Issue | Fix |
---|---|
Preset won’t validate for Bulk-Create | Check the live checklist—usually Category, Description, or Shipping Profile is incomplete. |
Fields didn’t apply | Confirm those details are actually saved in the Preset. Only stored fields overwrite existing data. |
Can’t find a field | If Etsy’s API supports it, Prelist supports it. Scroll or use search at the top of the field picker. |
9. Need Help?
Hit the in-app chat or email support@prelist.io. Include the Preset name and a quick loom/screenshot of the issue for fastest turnaround.
Ready to template your way to faster launches? Head over to the Listings tab and build your first Preset today. Happy listing! 🎉
